Happy 2012!!

I know we’re already a month into the new year but since I haven’t wished you a happy new year yet then let me be the 1000th person to wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2011 was a great year for Brown-Eyed Girl with so many exciting firsts for me, THE most exciting of which was shooting photographs for the Winter issue of Where Women Create magazine. You can see some of the inside of the issue here. I was asked to travel to Houston to shoot the studio of Drew Emborsky, the Crochet Dude who turned out to be such a funny charming guy and I really enjoyed spending some of the afternoon with him and having the opportunity for shooting for one of my very favorite publications!

2011 was also full of various types of portrait photo sessions…….newborn, family, engagement, senior & my new favorite type of session, boudoir. I’ve had many of you contacting me lately asking about these types of sessions so I’ve created a new boudoir gallery on my website along w/information on them under the “New!!” section. Basically I shoot boudoir/hot mama sessions at the location of your choice which is typically your home, the home of a friend or family member or possibly even a hotel room you’ve rented for the day. We don’t need much room……just a chair, settee, sofa or bed and some pretty natural light. If we shoot the session in your home then it’s much easier for you to change outfits, freshen your makeup and feel comfortable and let me tell you that every single woman I’ve shot these types of sessions for go away from it having a GREAT time and always tell me how much they enjoyed the experience. It’s VERY empowering! In both of my boudoir packages you get all of the edited images from your online proofing gallery in high-resolution on a CD with full printing rights, this way you can make your own prints or use the images to make a book or other gifts for your significant other which is a lot of fun! Pricing for these sessions are $300 for up to 2 hours of shooting time, my travel to you, professional editing of your images, the CD of images and $50 in print credit to spend with me for pro prints of your favorite images. The price for that package with professional makeup application is $350 and I HIGHLY recommend having your makeup done because it’s amazing the difference that adding false eyelashes and playing up the eyes & lips makes. HUGE difference! Here are a few examples of these types of sessions that I’ve done but as I said, you can see more on my website…..

As you can see, they don’t need to be too risque’…….they can be sweet & demure or you can push the envelope a bit and go for hot & sexy, it’s all up to YOU!! Wedding Sneak Peeks for Tiffany & Joel {Brown-Eyed Girl Photography}

I’ve been blessed to call Tiffany for many years now. Thinking back on it, I can’t even remember exactly when we met…….it just seems that as long as I’ve lived in this area she’s been my friend. It might’ve been through scrapbooking because wayyyyyyy back in the day we used to get together & scrap at her house or perhaps it was through baseball back when her oldest & my oldest played ball together? (Tiff, perhaps you can refresh my memory on this!) Regardless, we’ve managed to stay in touch through the years and meet up every now & then over coffee and catch up on things and I’m happy that we did. She was one of my first friends who allowed me to take photos of her adorable family and use them in my marketing materials back when I was starting my photography business and for that I was very grateful but then, Tiffany is just that sort of sweet friend, so when she asked me if I’d photograph her wedding day there was no way I’d ever say no. I was honored to be there and be part of her very special day all the while smiling & thinking how happy I am that God brought Joel into her life. She was a single mom to her 4 precious kids for many years being the only one to get them to school, band practice, sports practices, etc. and now her family is complete and I couldn’t be happier for her. I was secretly hoping she’d also ask me to come along with them on their honeymoon to Spain as their photographer but alas, that didn’t happen!! Congrats Tiffany & Joel, I hope you enjoy your sneak peeks! XOXO

The ceremony was held at the lovely historical Koehler House here in San Antonio.

Oh baby baby! {Schertz Maternity Photographer}

It’s always a special honor when a fellow photographer asks me to take photos for them & this was the case with Autumn. She’s beginning her own photography business here locally and asked if I’d take maternity pics for her since she’d never had them done before and this little peanut is her baby #5. We met up at the studio and spent a fun morning taking photos for her, here are just a few of my faves. Enjoy your sneak peeks Autumn & Matt!

I’m still truckin’ on with my Project 52 photos as well. The theme for week 3 was “Shades of Grey” so I snapped this shot of me at my studio before taking Autumn’s photos. I was looking out the window of my studio at the pavement and wall of the building across the street from mine on a grey gloomy day……thought it fit the theme well and I guess others did too because it was chosen as one of their Top 10 on the MCP Blog. I was so honored to have been noticed out of the hundreds of photos that are submitted! Here it is……

Belle has arrived!!

Last week Mr. UPS man delivered one of THE most exciting boxes that I’d gotten for a long long time. He brought me one that contained my new Ephiphanie bag!!!!

I had been coveting one of these beauties ever since Maile made the announcement of her exciting new business venture so it was very thrilling to be holding her vision in my hands! Of the choices she offers, I selected Belle since I normally go for the practical color! This time I thought I’d choose something different and fun plus I loved the outside pockets, I’ve already gotten so many compliments on her. Here are some of the other styles & colors available…….

Belle has more than enough room for my 5D with the battery grip and large lens attached, my flash, 2 extra lenses and other accessories I lug around and even with all of that, there is a bit of extra room inside, enough that I could easily fit my wallet & cell phone in there and just use it as a purse.

Somehow I just feel more fancy toting this back & forth to shoots & the studio rather than my industrial rather manly Canon backpack I previously used! I will keep my backpack too because it’s nice to fill that up and throw it on my back and keep my hands free when traveling with the boys in tow however for day to day use I love my Belle! It was obvious that a artsy girl designed these bags due to the little “extras” such as the blingy camera charm that hangs on the front, the bright green protective bag Belle arrived in and the cute little inspirational cards tucked into the pockets just waiting to be found……

I think that Belle and I are going to get along very very well.

On a business note, 2011 senior sessions have already begun! I shot my first senior session yesterday and really love pro-active parents who want to book their kid’s sessions and get them out of the way before the busy senior school year begins and activities resume. For those of you who BOOK your senior session before Sept. 30 (it doesn’t have to be shot before then) I will include 50 free photo “411″ cards which are cute little business cards with the senior’s photo on one side and information on the other which can include phone #, email address, myspace or facebook profile link, etc. that they can hand out to friends. This is a $40+ value so call today to book your senior’s session and don’t miss out on this offer!

Wildflowers are a’comin’!!

Ok, so if what Mr. Weatherman says is true we should have a bumper crop of wildflowers this spring due to the exceptionally cold & wet winter we’ve had this year and I couldn’t be happier about that news!!!! You see, I’ve had my photography biz for 2 years and guess what? Yep, NO wildflowers the past 2 springs which really really stunk because you don’t know how badly I’m wanting to shoot photos out in the midst of a massive field of Texas Bluebonnets! It shouldn’t be long before the little darlings are sprouting up so I’ll keep my eyes open and hope to find a big field of them somewhere where folks don’t mind if I use it every now & then for photos. If you locals (Schertz, Cibolo, New Braunfels) folks see any pretty fields of flowers I’d love to hear about it! Wildflower season is typically mid-late March & early April so if you’d like to book a wildflower session (even booking contingent on finding wildflowers is fine) then I’d recommend you do so now because between baseball, Spring Break, a wedding next month & sessions, my weekends are filling fast. I have plenty of weekday afternoons open though! Hope to hear from you soon.

I love referrals. Word of mouth is everything in the business world and it can mean the difference between someone hiring you or deciding to hire someone else. It’s always exciting meeting new clients who were referred to me by friends or former clients, people whom I don’t know and then after some chatting we realize how much we have in common or mutual friends we have. This is one of the perks of living in a somewhat small city I suppose. Taylor’s mom contacted me because she’s a teacher and works with my pastor’s wife who also happens to be a client. She needed senior portraits taken of her son and now he’s also one of my senior reps, you’ve gotta love referrals! Enjoy your sneak peeks….

Speaking of referrals, I don’t know if you know about my referral program so here it is……..when you refer someone to me who books & shoots their session, you earn a free 5×7 print and after 3 referrals, you earn a free photo session! That’s a total a total value of $210 just for bringing clients to Brown-Eyed Girl and don’t forget about the holiday mini-sessions too.
