The Simmons family have been great clients of mine for a couple of years now. This was our 4th session together and for this one I went to their beautiful home and shot some photos of their 7 month old son in the comfort of familiar surroundings. This is really the way to go when shooting infants! When he needed to nurse or be changed, we were right there where everything was handy & convenient which is really the way to go. We shot for about an hour till Daddy & the siblings returned home from the bookstore and it was time for me to be on my merry way which was more than enough time to grab some cute images of Baby Luke doing what he does best at 7 months……sit up, look cute, play & practice his pretend tummy swimming skills!

My husband and I spent 20 years in the military and it never gets any easier…….you make friends with another military family, you think they rock & inevitably one of you moves away shortly thereafter and this is the case w/the Dixon family. They go to my church and I recently attended a Bible study there w/Lori. We were in the same small group so we spent quite a bit of time together but I never happened to mention my photography business to her during that time. We subsequently became Facebook friends and I’m pretty sure that’s where she found out about what I do and she says, “Why didn’t you tell me??! I’m wanting family photos taken before we move to Germany this summer!” and the rest is history. Her oldest son is staying here in San Antonio to continue attending college so family photos will be especially important to her I’m guessing, I know how much mine mean to me and all of my boys are still here together under my roof (for a few more months anyway!). Dixon Family, I thank you for trusting me with these precious memories and I hope you enjoy your sneak peeks from that warm Saturday morning we spent together……

Wedding Sneak Peeks for Tiffany & Joel {Brown-Eyed Girl Photography}

I’ve been blessed to call Tiffany for many years now. Thinking back on it, I can’t even remember exactly when we met…….it just seems that as long as I’ve lived in this area she’s been my friend. It might’ve been through scrapbooking because wayyyyyyy back in the day we used to get together & scrap at her house or perhaps it was through baseball back when her oldest & my oldest played ball together? (Tiff, perhaps you can refresh my memory on this!) Regardless, we’ve managed to stay in touch through the years and meet up every now & then over coffee and catch up on things and I’m happy that we did. She was one of my first friends who allowed me to take photos of her adorable family and use them in my marketing materials back when I was starting my photography business and for that I was very grateful but then, Tiffany is just that sort of sweet friend, so when she asked me if I’d photograph her wedding day there was no way I’d ever say no. I was honored to be there and be part of her very special day all the while smiling & thinking how happy I am that God brought Joel into her life. She was a single mom to her 4 precious kids for many years being the only one to get them to school, band practice, sports practices, etc. and now her family is complete and I couldn’t be happier for her. I was secretly hoping she’d also ask me to come along with them on their honeymoon to Spain as their photographer but alas, that didn’t happen!! Congrats Tiffany & Joel, I hope you enjoy your sneak peeks! XOXO

Senior Sneak Peeks for Nathan! {Schertz Senior Photographer}

I’ve known the Garza family for years through baseball. Our boys have played ball together for a few years and they’re some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet so I was honored to be asked to take Nathan’s senior pictures. I’d been itching to take some baseball photos since the sport has been a huge part of our lives for years so it was fun to have access to the Clemens field. Best of luck to you & your college baseball career, Nathan……hope you enjoy your sneak peeks!

I’m seeing a few nice Bluebonnet fields here & there but unfortunately this years crop is NOTHING like last years when we had all of that lovely Spring rain. Everything is so bitter dry this year but those tough little guys are poking their heads up anyway so if you’ve been waiting for Bluebonnet pictures I’d say within the next week or so would probably be the optimum time. It’s always fun to incorporate them into Senior pictures as well! Thanks for stopping by & enjoy your weekend.

Canyon Cuties {Garden Ridge Family Photography}

In my nearly 3 years of owning Brown-Eyed Girl, the Wells family have been some of my BEST, most loyal and supportive clients. I’ve shot photographs for their outdoor lighting business, of their daughter Mariah when she turned 16, some lovely boudoir shots of Staci as a surprise for her husband and now their entire family which I was SO excited about since I hadn’t met Laura & Megan yet. We met up for a family mini-session after Christmas while everyone was in town and had a fun time (Staci keeps everyone laughing and everything running like a well-oiled machine and I LOVE that about her!). Wonder if I could convince her to come along to ALL of my sessions?! All the girls in the family attended Canyon High School and some of my favorite images from the session are of the girls in their Canyon letter jackets……

One more mini-session! {Brown-Eyed Girl Photography}

Had one last holiday mini-session last weekend and once again, we were blessed with the most gorgeous weather. That is certainly one thing I can’t complain about living here in South Texas as an on-location photographer who loves to shoot outdoors. We’re pretty much able to shoot outside here every month of the year and with the exception of the original day I had my mini-sessions scheduled, every other day I’ve had sessions scheduled has been wonderful and this particular saturday morning with the Marbach family was no exception. The mini-sessions have been a huge hit particularly with families with little ones whose attention spans rarely surpass that 30 minutes anyway. By the time we’re finished exploring and having fun I’ve pretty much gotten all the images I need to present a nice collection of images for the client. I’m toying with the idea of carrying on the concept of the mini-session into my regular year-long pricing since it’s been such a hit, we’ll see…….lots of idea rolling around in my head for 2011 but I digress…….here’s the adorable Marbach family!

First off, a huge heartfelt THANKS to all of my holiday mini-session clients from this past weekend!! Thanks for hanging in there and being so flexible with the rescheduling of your sessions because of the weather. Thankfully it all worked out for the best & we were blessed with lovely warm weather & lovely light all weekend, yay! I appreciate & value each & every one of you and I thank you for trusting me with your family portraits. Over the next few days I’ll be posting some sneak peeks from those sessions and first up is my lovely talented scrapbooking friend, Erin Terrell Clarkson, and her lovely daughter Daisy. I’ve been a huge fan of scrabooking since I first heard about it back in 1995 when my 2nd son was born and over the years I’ve managed to collect quite a few scrapbooking magazines, attend conventions, classes and things and if you’ve opened up an issue of Creating Keepsakes or Scrapbooks Etc. magazine within the past several years then you most likely know who Erin is. We’ve literally watched her daughter Daisy grow up in the magazines & idea books through Erin’s scrapbook pages & projects so it was a royal treat for me to be able to photograph her just days after turing 13! Thank you, Erin, for asking me to take photos for you…….I’m already looking forward to our next coffee date!

Long-time Friends {Garden Ridge Family Photographer}

After spending 20+ years in the Air Force, moving around every 3 yrs ending up no where near our hometowns, it’s rare that you end up living near long-time friends but somehow certain things in life just end up coming around full circle. Gayla and I grew up in the same area of Oklahoma but went to different high schools, are a few years apart in age and didn’t know each other until our future husbands introduced us to each other. She began dating Bob who was in the midst of Pilot Training at Vance AFB in Enid, OK with my future husband, Steve. Bob & Gayla met first then Steve and I met a short while later. I think we hung out a few times together as couples at parties and such before the guys graduated from Pilot Training however they took a much quicker course to marital bliss than Steve and I. We attended their Enid wedding before they both headed off to Florida where Bob flew F-15s while Steve stayed put at Vance to become an Instructor Pilot in the T-38s which enabled us to take things a bit slower since he was going to be living in my hometown for a few more years. Over the guys’ military careers we weren’t stationed together again till both eventually ended up here in San Antonio at Randolph AFB which is where we all decided to plant roots and stay put for a while. It’s been SO nice having them here because Gayla is a rock star hair stylist and has been my exclusive hair dresser for years and years now, I can’t imagine going to anyone else! A while back Gayla asked if I’d take family portraits for them since she was wanting a canvas to hang in their new lovely home so we met in Gruene on a lovely morning to take pictures. I was shocked when we arrived to find the little town still half-asleep and mostly empty so we took full advantage of that until it quickly filled up with tourists and hungry folks heading to the Gristmill for lunch. Here are some of the results…….aren’t they a beautiful family!!

Love. Pure adoration and love. That’s pretty much all I can say about this couple and these images. I have to admit that my eyes teared up a time or two just feeling & sensing the love between them and it was pretty amazing. Thank you Brian & Heather for allowing me the privilidge of shooting for your first maternity session. I simply can’t wait to meet Baby Mason!

Summer Update {Brown-Eyed Girl Photography}

Hello All! I haven’t abadoned you, I promise. I would NEVER do that! I do have some pretty darn good excuses for my lack of blogging lately though, I really do. This mama has been a traveling girl lately which is so nice but rare for me, I think I’m making up for lost time or something…….all those years I stayed homebound raising 3 little boys. It’s odd to be able to travel as much as I am lately but I’m not questioning it at all, just enjoying it, thanking God I have a supportive husband & soaking it all in. After a crazy busy May & early/mid June I attended Paper Cowgirl because my good friend Jennifer Stewart was teaching there and I’d always wanted to go. Thankfully this year I was able to make it work so I made the trek up to Waxahachie which I promptly found out I’d been mispronouncing all these years! I’d been saying WAXahachie like you wax a car but found out that the WAX is said like the word rock…..wocks……Waxahachie. However you properly say it, it’s a quaint cute town with a darling downtown shopping area and I’d certainly love to go back someday! The event was awesome too and it was so nice to see so many Silver Bella friends there!

You just have to love a good ol’ Texas event where even pistols are blinged out in glass glitter!!!

July was full of visits from friends, concerts, weddings, family, senior & 50th Anniversary sessions & another trip to Dallas later in the month. If July 1 was any indication as to how the rest of the month was going to go then YOWZA. I spent the day in rainy San Antonio with my friend Jodi and we got to hang with her very favorite band, the All-American Rejects. Don’t believe me? I have proof and yea, it looks like I put the guy next to me asleep……..ah well……..

I usually don’t get all crazy fan-girly but even I must say that was on amazing crazy experience! I mean really, it’s not everyday a regular Joe mom like me gets to hang with a rock band. Heck, they even took us on a tour of their amazing tour bus. Don’t be hatin’. I was able to hang with Jodi again later in July at her beautiful wedding reception in Austin at the Umlauf Sculpture Gardens which were so beautiful & amazing despite it being an ultra hot & sticky July Texas day. I loved seeing her so happy and it was wonderful seeing old friends again……

Gotta get a pretty ring shot!!

I did a military family shoot on a balmy summer evening at the lovely Japanese Tea Gardens which is always a fun but interesting experience. Going there is a total crap shoot because you never know how many people will be there or how many other photo sessions will be going on at the same time. I’ve gone there when the place was vacant & have also been there when it’s packed and at least 5 other photo sessions are being held, you just never know! This particular evening was quite crowded but we managed to find secluded spots to shoot.

Next came a shoot I was excited about since it was a bit different than most others I do. I’d been asked to shoot a 50th Anniversary party for a sweet local couple. Friends & family came in from near & far to celebrate their special day with them and their daughters hired me to preserve the day in print for them. I was quite honored to be a small part of their day. The mother was especially touched since all of the family hadn’t been together in quite some time, she was brought to tears which of COURSE made me cry too. I can’t help it.

The wedding topper off their wedding cake, 50 years ago to the day. Beautiful.

July ended with another trip north up I-35 to downtown Dallas and the next Gilded Life event at the beautiful home of Shea Fragoso but I’m going to stop here because that event deserves a blog post all it’s own! I was honored to be asked to photograph the event for Debbie & Shea and thankfully I’ll be able to share some of the images here with all of you!
