Some of my very favorite subjects to photograph are high school seniors, I just adore them.  Students these days are so willing to be themselves, project their personality & insert that into their photographs and most of all, do things that set themselves apart from others which is a far cry from when I was a senior back in the ’80s (YES, the ’80s!) where most of us were cookie cutter copies of one another or at least the other members of whichever clique we belonged to and all of our senior pics pretty much looked the same.  Now the sky is the limit and I always have fun brainstorming and bouncing ideas off of senior clients & their parents and then seeing what they decide on.

This is Jordan and I just adore her.  She’s in band and because of that became friends with my son who is also in band even though she’s a year older.  I was a band girl too so I can totally relate!  She’s an excellent French Horn player and decided to bring it along on her shoot as well as her letter jacket, I was thrilled about that and just love any little things that add personal touches to the portraits.

Go Steele Knights!

This is my personal fave……just LOOK at those big hazel eyes!

Thank you Jordan, hope you have an awesome senior year!

Speaking of the ’80s earlier, I was able to sneak off to Houston for the weekend to see one of my favorite ’80s bands in concert, Depeche Mode, and it was such a fun drift back into nostalgia!  I love to see these older bands pull themselves together, put aside differences, reunite and become just as good as they ever were again.  Good for them!  I hadn’t seen them in concert before and they just totally blew me away, FANTASTIC!  Needless to say, I’ve had Depeche Mode music in heavy rotation on my iPod for the past week or two in preparation for the show and I don’t see any end in sight…..still love those guys and their music is still as relevant as ever.  Speaking of which, time to crank up some ’80s tunes and get some more work done.  ‘Till next time…….

I know school just began today in our local school districts however many high school seniors are already thinking about their senior pictures which rocks.  It really makes things easier for photographers to have senior sessions spread throughout the school year rather than most of them squished into April & May which is normally the case.  It’s never too soon to think booking your senior session especially here in south Texas where we can shoot outside pretty much every month of the year!  This year at Brown-Eyed Girl I’ve decided to try a new program to focus specifically on seniors and motivate them to take their portraits early, it’ll be fun & interesting to see how it works.  I’ve chosen guys & gals from local high schools to represent me and my business as “Senior Reps” and their job is to help spread the word about Brown-Eyed Girl Photography.  I do their photo sessions early, provide them with cute rep cards to hand out to classmates & friends throughout the school year and then hopefully in turn those kids will book their sessions with me.  I have some awesome reps this year and I know they’ll do the best they can.  The first senior rep session I did was with Codie.  He goes to my church and is an awesome role model and wonderful Christian young man, the kids at our church adore him, so I was proud to be able to shoot his senior pictures for him.

Thank you Codie, you rocked it.

As I’m sitting here in my nice cool house dreading going outside because we’ve hit yet ANOTHER day of 100+ degree temps (think this makes 60+ days of 100+ temps so far this summer) I often find myself daydreaming about being back in California again.  The hubby and I took a trip to Napa Valley & San Francisco  last month to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary which is coming up in September and oh my, I just loved it out there.  Although it did get quite warm in Napa, generally the temps were still much cooler than what we have to endure here in south Texas and the foliage & landscape there was certainly much prettier & greener than what we have to look at here thanks to the drought.  As we drove into San Francisco from Napa, we watched the temps dip down 30 degrees on the car thermometer within the short drive which was pretty freaky I must say!  Sure enough, we got out of the car at the top of a hill near the Golden Gate bridge and it was fa-reezing!!  Even though the winds were whipping us around and were quite intense I was secretly thinking about how nice it was to be COLD again.  We spent 3 days in San Francisco and I don’t think the temperature ever got above 75 degrees but was typically much cooler than that.  Ahhhhhhhh!!  Along w/the cool temps came the clouds & fog so we never really had a nice clear view of the bay or bridge but the fog did provide a lovely backdrop for the Golden Gate I suppose, VERY San Francisco.  🙂  Was looking back through some shots from our trip to reminisce and thought I’d share some with you too.  Enjoy.

Welcome to my new blog!  I’m sorry if you’ve been checking in at my other poor neglected blog over the past few months, I’m sure you might’ve given up on me a long while ago but now I hope that you’ll check in often to see what I’ve been up to.  This blog will take the place of my personal that I’ve had for years & my older photography blog and my goal is to merge it all here where you will find sneak peeks of client sessions, updates on offers & specials I’m offering through my business, random photos that I wish to share and a few updates in general on what I’ve been up to.  I’m excited to have everything here in one nice place where the images are much bigger & BETTER!!  VERY excited!  This has been a long time in the planning & making and you’ll probably see the blog go through various changes till I’m completely satisfied with it but for now this will do just fine as I’ve been itching to launch.  I’d been wanting to begin this blog for months now but hit some snags with typical summertime family activities, our 20th wedding anniversary trip with the Furses to Napa Valley & San Francisco in late July and then the recent unexpected death of my father which slowed me down for a while.  By the way, I publicly want to say that I SO appreciate all of the emails, phone calls, texts, cards and words of support……they certainly helped me get through when I was down in the valley looking out but I’m ready to heal and move forward with a new school year, cooler weather (HOPEFULLY!  It HAS to happen soon, right?!) and a busy fall and holiday season w/Brown-Eyed Girl.  The 2010 Senior season has already kicked off and I will be posting photos soon of a few of my Senior Reps (guys & gals in local high schools who help promote & spread the word about my business), I’m lucky to have found some great kids who will be awesome representatives of me and my business.  Thanks Guys!

I wanted to launch my blog posting photos from one of my recent favorite sessions.  I go to church with this precious couple and had such fun spending the morning photographing them.  This is their first baby and you could just tell that they’re SO excited!  Meredith had her make-up done by local professional make-up artist Robyn Chappell which only added to her effervescent glow that only pregnant women have.  If you are interested in hiring Robyn for your session as well, just let me know and I’ll pass along her contact information to you.  Here are some of my personal faves from the session.  Enjoy your sneak peek, Guys!!
